10,000-14,000 Repetitions of Upper Body Bodyweight Exercises

  • Includes Push Ups, Dips, Pull Ups, and Bodyweight Rows

Complete 40 Hours of Cardio Training (Everyone)

  • Any activities that will help improve your cardiovascular conditioning
  • What activities that will directly improve your specific cardio needed for Taekwondo and Self Defense

Complete 100-200 Rounds of Sparring (Everyone)

  • 1 Minute rounds
  • Count rounds that you feel you can or have learned something from 
  • Must be a black belt candidate or black belt
  • Exceptions made under Master Jonathan’s discretion
  • Black Belt – 100 reps
  • 1st Degree Black Belt – 150 reps
  • 2nd Degree Black Belt – 150 reps
  • 3rd Degree Black Belt – 200 reps
  • 4th Degree Black Belt – 200 reps
Virtual Sparring Partner and Drills with Master Jonathan and Mr. Michael (Can use these for sparring rounds if you don’t have a sparring partner or can’t make it to class because of distance or lockdown)

Complete 1000 Patterns (Everyone)

  • Practice with good form 1,000 repetitions of your various Taekwondo Patterns
  • You cannot count any forms that are for higher ranks than what you are going for
  • Split the reps up according to your strongest and weakest patterns
  • Weapon Forms Do Not Count
  • You can count Patterns you do in class

Create Musical Form (Everyone)

  • 45 second minimum creative form with music
  • Must contain minimum 20 moves/counts
  • Form must be empty hand for candidates testing for first Black Belt
    • Candidates testing for 1st Degree Black Belt and above may create a musical weapons form
  • May do a synchronized form with a fellow candidate testing, or Black Belt at Cobourg Tae Kwon Do
    • Must be in sync 75% of the time
    • 2-4 Person Team Sync Team
    • May use weapon in form if at least one of the candidates testing is testing for 1st Degree Black Belt or above
  • May learn a Modern Creative/Hyper Martial Arts Form that has already been created if testing for 2nd Degree Black Belt or above.

Journey to Black Belt Poster (Everyone)

  • A poster that shows your journey from white belt to black belt
  • Make it your own, show your personality, make it uniquely yours
  • 1st Degree Black Belt Candidates and above can show their journey beyond Black Belt

Community Based Projects (Everyone)

  • As a group all the candidates, instructors, and mentors will complete 2 community projects together.
    • Annual Stocking Drive for Northumberland Giving Tree
      • Put together stockings and bring to Cobourg Tae Kwon Do by Friday December 11th
      • Ask your friends, families, classmates, and co-workers to donate stockings for you to hand in
    • EMPOWERED Charity Defense and Empowerment Workshop and Fundraiser
        • Saturday April 10th – Master Jonathan and Ma’am Cheryl will be teaching various free workshops for women
        • May need other candidates to help depending on the number of sign ups
        • Black Belt Candidates will collect online donations at canadahelps.ca
        • Will get local businesses to sponsor the event
        • Proceeds will go to Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre

Compete in one or both tournaments hosted by Cobourg TKD (Everyone)

  • Cobourg Tae Kwon Do In House Tournament
    • Saturday November 28, 2020
  • 6th Annual Ontario Breaking Championships and Open Martial Arts Showcase
    • Saturday May 29, 2021

20 Hours of Volunteering at Cobourg Tae Kwon Do (Everyone)

  • Help teach classes, volunteer at events Cobourg Tae kwon Do hosts, and other volunteer opportunities given by Master Jonathan

Attend two classes weekly plus (Everyone)

  • One Saturday Morning Sunrise Workout a month (7:30am-8:30am)
  • One Sunday Morning Class a month (9:00am-10:00am)

Doctor’s Note

  • Have your Doctor/General Health Care Provider write a Doctor’s Note stating that you are of good health and are physically fit to take part in the Black Belt Testing
  • Doctor’s Note is due by June 1, 2021
  • Dated no earlier then May 1, 2020
  • Doctor’s Note is not required if you handed one in for the 2020 Black Belt Testing

Learn a Japanese or Chinese Martial Arts Form (3rd Degree Candidates & Up)

  • Choose a Japanese or Chinese style Martial Arts Form and Learn It
  • You can learn the form from various medias such as books and videos on the internet
  • Provide the resource/book/video of the form so we can check the accuracy of your performance of the form

25 Minute Presentation Of Curriculum and Journey (4th Degree Candidates)

  • Create and Perform a 25 minute presentation on your journey to 4th Degree Black Belt and demonstrations of the following:
    • Taekwondo Forms
    • A Japanese or Chinese Style Martial Arts Form
    • Your Musical Form
    • Weapons Forms and/or Drills
    • Sparring
    • One Step Sparring
    • Mitt Work
    • Self Defense (Empty Hand, Against Weapons, Ground)
    • Breaking
    • Your Story and Knowledge
    • Anything else you would like to add
    • May use multimedia and music
    • Use various partners
